"Woods" House Rules

  1. UNIT IN WOODS WITHIN ONE INCH OF EDGE, OTHER UNIT OUTSIDE WOODS.
    1. Units within one inch of the edge of woods that are given any order except hold, or who fire, are treated as normally sighted targets.
    2. If a unit performed some action on the previous turn, and was sighted by any unit outside of the woods, and only holds the following turn, it is an area target.
    3. Other than the above, a unit that performs no action is a blind target.

  2. UNIT IN WOODS OVER ONE INCH FROM EDGE, OTHER UNIT OUTSIDE WOODS.
    1. If unit in woods fires, it is treated as an area target by units outside of the woods.
    2. Units that do not fire are treated as blind targets to fire from outside the woods, regardless of other actions performed.
    3. Units in woods firing out must still make their visibility roll, and may be required to fire as blind fire and be shot at in return as area fire.

  3. BOTH UNITS IN THE WOODS.
    1. If a unit rolls for visibility and fails, it fires as blind fire. Other units may then fire at that unit as area fire. Units not the target of the fire may make visibility rolls, and if fail treat the target as area fire. If they succeed, they treat the target as normal.
    2. On the turn following a unit in the woods firing, failure to make a visibility roll with that unit as the target results in the unit being treated as area fire.
    3. Hidden markers in the woods that perform no action cannot be seen by other units in the woods over one inch away.

  4. OTHER WOODS NOTES.
    1. Any part of a unit within one inch outside of woods is treated as if it were in the woods for visibility.
    2. When a unit is charging in wood it is treated as a blind target to units outside of the woods until it is one inch from the edge. It is treated as a normal target for units in the woods, unless beyond normal sighting possibilities.
    3. If a unit in a woods is charging out of the woods, charged units outside the woods do a fear of charge when the unit comes in sight, or at three inches, whichever is less. If the unit comes into sight at less than three inches, the charged unit(s) must do a fear of charge before firing, even if on hold.
    4. Non-charging targets who are fired at throught woods receive all appropriate saving rolls.
    5. Artillery, when firing through any amount of woods, receive a fire detriment for doing so.
